Web framework
is done. Now what?
So you got your web page running on your computer, now you need to
publish it. The next steps are:
Finding a Domain Name
This is another activity that you should invest some time in. The
name you choose for your domain has to be
- Easy to remember
- Short
- Ideally giving an idea what your business is about
If you have a local business, you might want to register a Country
domain (e.g. .co.uk, .de, .nl, .it
) The advantage is, that there
are usually more free names available, than for .com domains. The
disadvantage is, that it clearly indicates that you are a local business,
which might scare international customers away.
For country - domains, ask you local ISP for registration procedures.
They vary from country to country. If you want to register a .com,
.net, .org, or .info domain, you can do that pretty much anywhere
on the web (see the "links" page for a few of my personal
choices).
Be aware, that you are "stuck" with the name you choose.
There is absolutely no sense in changing it after a while, because
you'll have to start all over making it known.
Once you think
you have found the name for you, make a little test:
Call five of your friends and tell them to write down the domain name
you have chosen. Then let them spell what they understood back to
you. You'll be amazed, and you might have to go back to the drawing
board
Told you, it was not easy.
